GEORGE TOWN – A British man was allegedly beaten unconscious by a group of men in a brawl in front of a restaurant in Penang Road here early today.
Northeast District police chief ACP Anuar Omar said based on the statement from the victim’s friend, there were traces of blood at the scene.
“The 39-year-old victim’s friend, who is also a British, had mentioned that he was not aware of the incident and only saw a group of dark-skinned men gathered around (the location).
“Upon arrival, he saw the victim was already lying on the ground and covered in blood,” he said here today.
Anuar said the victim sustained a neck injury, and that the police were unable to record his statement as yet because the foreigner was going through surgery at press time.
There were closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area but the footages were blurry and covered, he said.
However, Anuar said the police had detained a 38-year-old man, who was being remanded until Thursday to facilitate investigation.
The police were also in the midst of tracking down other suspects, he added. – BERNAMA
