HAFIZH Syahrin Abdullah will start Sunday’s San Marino Grand Prix from ninth row alongside rivals Florian Marino and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman after he suffered braking issues during the Moto2 qualifying on Saturday.
The PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia rider found himself struggling to stop the bike under dry conditions particularly at the corner entry and it cost him valuable time and left him unable to challenge for a good start position.
In the end Hafizh could only manage to post 1’39.670s to be the 25th quickest, 1.627 seconds adrift poleman, Mika Kallio who leads with 1’38.043s. Esteve Rabat and Thomas Luthi locked out the dront row with 1’38.110s and 1’38.114s respectively.
“I had a lot of problems trying to stop my machine at the braking points so I am quite frustrated, especially after a strong run in the first two practice sessions on Friday,†said the 20-year old.
“Somehow the front-end of the bike and the brakes are not working well. I had to hold them longer when leaning into the turns and lose a lot of time doing this. Hopefully, the engineers can help resolve this problem in the warm-up on Sunday before the race,†he added.
