IPOH – An accident is reported to have happened at the North-South Highway (PLUS) at KM265.8 southbound involving an express bus and 10 cars.
According to a video which has since gone viral on social media, the bus is seen exiting the Menora Tunnel at high speed before ramming into several vehicles.
The accident caused heavy traffic at the highway.
According to PLUS, no deaths were reported.
Perak police have confirmed receiving a report on the accident.
The bus is identified as a STAR QISTNA express bus, with the number plate BLB 6936.
Ipoh OCPD Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong said investigations found that the bus, which was heading from Penang to Kuala Lumpur, experienced a technical problem when it was travelling down a slope near the site of the incident.
“The brakes weren’t functioning well. As a result, the bus headed down the slope at high speed and rammed into 10 other cars in front,” he said.
ACP Sum confirmed that a 21-year-old girl, who was a passenger in one of the cars, suffered pain in the stomach area.
ACP Sum added that the bus driver’s urine test for drugs returned negative. The 51 yesr old driver was remanded today morning for reckless driving.
