JITRA – An elderly man on his way to perform prayers at the Pulau Ketam Mosque here early today found the body of an infant boy by the fence of the house of worship.

The man, in his 60s, contacted the police after coming across the body wrapped in a piece of batik cloth and a black plastic sheet at about 5.30 am, said Kubang Pasu District Police chief Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim.

A medical team from the Jitra Hospital confirmed that the infant had died more than 24 hours earlier as the body was bloated, he said in a statement.

The body was taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar and the case was being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body, he said.

Mohd Ismail appealed to eye-witnesses, anyone who had information or the baby’s mother to make a police report. – BERNAMA
