National bodybuilding icon Sazali Samad has been given a four-year ban after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
Sazali, 48, tested positive for steroids.
He failed a random out-of-competition test by National Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (Adamas) on Sept 1.
He was slated to compete in the 49th Asian Body Building Championship from Sept 29-Oct 5 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, but withdrew citing back injury.
He will serve a four-year ban back-dated to Sept 22 – the date when the results was known.
The punishment could mark the end of Sazali’s illustrious career.
He was winner of 10 Mr Universe and nine Mr Asia titles.
