MIRI- An elderly man and his two young grandchildren were found drowned near the jetty of Marudi town, located in the interior of northern Sarawak.
The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), in its latest report, said rescue personnel from Bomba Marudi recovered the three bodies from the river at about 9am on June 22.
The three have been identified as Sujai Jaraee, 72, and his two grandsons Mohd Alyeef, 14, and Mohd Zafir, 12.
The Bomba Marudi team led by station chief Maureen Sim rushed to the jetty upon being alerted of the case at about 8.10am.
Bomba Sarawak said the police had called Bomba Marudi after the police station in Marudi received a call from a someone who had seen the bodies floating in the river.
The bodies have been handed over to the Marudi police for investigation.
Bomba Sarawak said it is still unsure what had caused the death of the three persons or whether they had fallen into the river from a boat.
The police have taken over the case, it said.- The Star Online
