TUMPAT – Former Tumpat District Assistant Education Officer, Mat Razi Mat Ail who picked as Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Pengkalan Kubor by-election, is an experienced leader with religious knowledge.
Mat Razi, 49, who is also Tumpat Umno division committee member is an approachable person who is vastly involved in various community work.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Malay Literature from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and also graduated from the Sultan Abdul Halim Teacher’s Training College in Kedah.
Mat Razi began his career as a teacher in 1988 and had taught at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bunohan, Tumpat, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Kurau, Perak, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ayer Lanas, Jeli and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Geting, Tumpat.
He was fondly called ‘Ustaz’ by villagers for being the founder of the Simpangan religious school here on a piece of land he had donated in 2012.
The religious school provides free religious lessons for 50 year one pupils.
Mat Razi was also the college Quran reading competition champion and is now the secretary of the Kampung Simpangan Mosque here since 2003 as well as its Al-Quran teacher since 1995.
He is also the chairman of the Nurul Ehsan Kampung Telaga Bata Madrasah in Tumpat.
The BN candidate started dabbling in politics in 1990 as Simpangan Umno secretary before being appointed as a member of the Tumpat Umno Youth committee in 2005.
Mat Razi is married to Khairos Husin and have six children. – Bernama
