PETALING JAYA: PKR politician Bill Kayong was reportedly shot in the neck as he stopped his pick-up truck at the traffic light junction in Senadin, about 20km north of Miri city, on Tuesday.
The Toyota truck, still bearing the PKR election logo, was found riddled with bullet holes on the driver’s side at about 9.20am near the E-Mart supermarket on Permyjaya-Kuala Baram road.
Kayong, the Miri PKR branch secretary, was found slumped in the driver’s seat, with injuries on his face and neck.
Kayong had been a vociferous advocate of social issues and had banked on NCR land issues in the state elections when he contested in the Bekenu seat against Rosey Yunus of Barisan Nasional and independents, Jou @ Peter Jelin and Austin Sigi Melu.
His death has sent shockwaves across the state.
PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she was shocked by the shooting and urged members to remain calm and allow the police to conduct investigations.
