PETALING JAYA – The future of the 2017 SEA Games Project Squad players – either to remain with the squad or play with their respective teams in the 2016 Malaysian League (M-League) – now lies in the hand of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
The newly-appointed national Under 23 Head Coach, Frank Bernhardt, who was in charge of the squad effective Jan 1, stressed that the national football governing body should decide on the matter as soon as possible to ensure its targets for the squad to bag the gold medal in 2017 SEA Games would be achieved.
“The 2017 SEA Games will be held in Malaysia and they are vying for a gold medal, so we need to assemble the best players to meet the target.
“But, I will leave it to FAM to decide either to allow them to play in the M-League or assemble as one team before the 2017 SEA Games gets underway,” he told reporters when met on the first day of training session for the squad at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya here today.
Bernhardt said he needed four individuals to be fitness coach, goalkeeper coach, assistant and also second assistant coach, to manage the squad properly. – BERNAMA
