SHAH ALAM – Bangi assemblyman Mohd Shafie Ngah of PAS has been elected new Deputy Speaker of Selangor State Assembly through a secret vote count.
Speaker Hannah Yeoh made the announcement at the third sitting for the second term of the state legislative assembly which began Monday.
Mohd Shafie received 28 votes against 14 votes obtained by Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim of DAP, who was also nominated for the post.
Selangor opposition leader Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias said all 12 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen abstained and did not vote.
The deputy speaker seat was vacated when Seri Setia assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) resigned following his appointment as member of Selangor state executive council.
At this sitting Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali will table the 2015 state budget for the first time following his appointment on Sept 23. – BERNAMA
