SUNGAI PETANI – A four-month-old baby girl who died on Monday (Oct 31) at 10.20am at the Intensive Care Unit of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, is believed to have been caused by her babysitter in Kampung Jerai, Kuala Sin, Bukit Selambau.
Kuala Muda district police chief, ACP Md Zukir Md Isa said police received a report from the doctor who treated the baby at about 4.30pm on Thursday (Oct 27) claiming the patient was suffering from epilepsy, was unconscious and in a critical condition.
“The victim was suspected of having been abused based on injuries such as brain hemorrhage and a fractured skull,” he told Bernama when contacted today.
Police have arrested a 40-year-old female a day after the incident (on Oct 28), who was the victim’s nanny since August with a salary of RM250.
Investigations revealed that the victim was the youngest of two sisters (twins) and the victim’s parents worked at a nearby factory.
“The suspect claims to have swung the cradle using her left hand and the baby’s head had hit the floor at about 7.30am, but at the time the victim was still conscious. At 8.30am the suspect sent the victim to her grandmother’s house, not knowing what else to do,” he said.
The grandmother suspected something was amiss and took the victim to the Bukit Selambau Health Clinic. – BERNAMA
