ALOR SETAR – A 15-month-old baby girl who was found unconscious at her babysitter’s house in Padang Serai, Kulim, last Friday, died at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), here yesterday evening.
Hayfa Afrina who had received treatment for the past three days since her admission, passed away at 3.40pm at the hospital, believed to be due to injuries suffered after falling while playing at her babysitter’s house on Thursday evening.
The victim’s father Mohd Nasri Mohd Yusof, 26, who works at the Kulim Fire and Rescue Station said, he received a Whatsapp message from the babysitter that his child was unconscious and rushed to the babysitter’s house who is also my neighbour and took her to the Kulim Hospital.
“However she was transferred to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital on the same day before she passed away at 3.40pm yesterday,” he told reporters at the hospital mortuary, here today.
Mohd Nasri said he did not expect anything wrong since her daughter did not show changes or illness when she came home on Thursday.
“Her babysitter said she fell while playing on Thursday evening and there were bruises on her right forehead but I don’t know how and when it happened,” he said.
Hayfa Afrina’s remains were buried at the Kampung Tok Naya Muslim Cemetery in Aru, Perlis, this evening.
Meanwhile, Kulim police chief Supt Ahmad Nasir Jaafar confirmed receiving a report regarding the incident and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“We are still waiting for the post-mortem result to determine the cause of the injury and we have asked the babysitter to come to the police station to give a statement. This is to investigate whether there was an element of negligence in this case,” he said. – BERNAMA
