KUALA LUMPUR – National track cycling champion, Azizulhasni Awang crashed out of the keirin race in the first World Cup series in Poland after colliding with Japanese rider Kazaunari Watanabe.
The incident occurred at the last corner towards to the finishing line when the Pocket Rocketman was racing in the repecharge at the BGZ Velodrome in Pruszkow.
He needed a win the repecharge to qualify for the semi-finals.
Azizulhasni posted in his Instagram site that he however did not sustain any serious injuries and would be racing in the individual sprint event early in the morning.
“Unfortunately things did not go as plan for I was involved in a crash during my repecharge with Japanese rider Kazunari Watanabe.
“I just got a bit superficial damage and sprained ankle but I’ll toughen up. Hopefully tomorrow I can still be back on the bike for my individual sprint event. Thank you everyone for the support and prayers,” he said via his instagram site, azizulawangofficial.
The Terengganu-born rider was seriously injured in Manchester in 2011 when a velodrome splinter pierced through his leg. – BERNAMA
