Auditor-General Heads Penang Honours List

GEORGE TOWN – Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang today led the list of 1,275 recipients of the state awards and medals in conjunction with the 77th birthday of Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.

Ambrin, 66, who holds the office of Auditor-General since Feb 2006, was one of six recipients of the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN) which carries the title ‘Datuk Seri’.

The ceremony took place at Sri Pinang Hall, here.

According to the list issued by the State Secretariat Office, the other recipients were Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) chief General Tan Sri Roslan Saad, Sultan Idris Education University pro-chancellor Tan Sri Dr Yahaya Ibrahim, Penang Cheshire Home founder Datuk Seri Khoo Keat Siew, BM Bina Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Teh Aik Lum and Penang Turf Club Senior Committee member Datuk Seri Teh Choon Beng.

Six people were conferred the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN) which also carries the title of ‘Datuk Seri’.

They were deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim, Tourism and Culture Minister political secretary Datuk Mohamed Ismail Mohamed Othman, Universiti Utara Malaysia vice chancellor Datuk Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, Eastern & Oriental Bhd (E&O) managing director Datuk Tham Ka Hon, Penang High Court judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin and SAA Resources Sdn Bhd group executive chairman Datuk Shaik Aqmal Shaik Alaudin.

Twelve people received Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN) which carries the title ‘Datuk’. They were Police Family Association chairman Datuk Zubaidah Md Ismail, Penang Jawi Peranakan Heritage Society president Datuk Dr Wazir Jahan Begum Abdul Kadir, Tatt Giap Group chairman Datuk Siah Kok Poay, Xiamen Friendship Association secretary general Datuk Tean Kok Pin, Lembaga Tabung Haji senior general manager Datuk Syed Saleh Abdul Rahman and Bukit Bendera Corporation board member Datuk S. Kumaran.

The others were World Congress In Sports and Exercise Medicine Malaysia chairman Datuk Mohamed Mydin Mohd Musa, Penang Chinese Chambers of Commerce deputy president Datuk Ar Jong East Full, National Indian Rights Action Team chairman Datuk Thasleem Mohamed Ibrahim, Penang Medical Practitioners Society former president Datuk Dr K. Arunasalam, Penang State Human Resources Liaison Committee chairman Datuk J. Ajit Singh and Persatuan Bomba Gotong Royong Raja Uda chairman Datuk Chin Poh Chye.

Forty-eight people received Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which also carries the ‘Datuk’ title including Makkal Osai senior editor-in-chief M. Rajintheram, Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Society Malaysia vice-president Dr Pua Kin Choo, Malaysian composer and pianist Ooi Eow Jin, Pembinaan Global Strategies Sdn Bhd managing director Abdul Jabarullah Kadersah, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Student Affairs and Alumni deputy vice-chancellor Prof Dr Adnan Hussein, Islamik Renaissance Front chairman Dr Ahmad Farouk Musa and state Lembaga Tabung Haji director Ahmad Sohaimi Abd Rahim.

Also receiving the DSPN were Taman Bertam Indah Mosque Qaryah chairman Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, La Salle director Anthony Roges Balavandram, state Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (REHDA) Technical Committee chairman Chan Fock Seng, Infinity Logistics and Transport Sdn Bhd managing director Chan Kong Yew, World Equipment chief operating officer Datin Chew Lean Hong, state Fo Yi Hemodialisis activist Chew Seng Lye, Perak Hock Kean Kong Hoey advisor Chew Soo Ho, Penang Kwangtung and Association chairman Choot Ewe Beng, state War Museum board member Hafizah Hassan and state Free Industrial Zone president Heng Huck Lee.

It was also received by Malaysian Armed Forces deputy assistant chief of staff Major General Datuk Ibrahim Hashim, Penang Water Supply Corporation general manager Jaseni Maidinsa, St Nicholas Welfare Home director John Alexander Rodgers, state Public Service Sports and Recreation Club vice- president Khoo Kay Hock, state Consumer Protection Association president K. Korisatan, USM School of Housing, Building and Planning senior lecturer Assoc. Prof Dr Ku Azhar Ku Hassan, Selangor Technology, Information and E-Commerce Council advisor Lai Yit Loong, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Lee Joon Kiong and former national football player Mohamad Bakar.

The others were Penang Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology head Dr Mohamed Rouse Abd Majid, Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Malaysia vice-president Datuk Dr Mohd Hamzah Kamarulzaman, Pharmacogenomics Consortium specialist Prof Dr Mohd Zaki Salleh, Persatuan Pertubuhan Melayu Penaga deputy president Muhamad Saad Saat, Multimedia Development Corporation Malaysia chief operating officer Ng Wan Peng, CIMB Islamic Sharia and Sunlife Takaful Sdn Bhd advisor Prof Dr Noor Inayah Yaakub, Medical Practitioners Club president Dr PS Pravinchand, state Attorney Committee member R. Ramanathan, Penang High Court judge Ya Rosilah Yop, Putrajaya Court Sports and Welfare Club advisor Roslan A. Bakar and Shan Children Welfare Association Dr S. S. Balakrishnan.

Mydin Wholesales Emporium and Hypermarket managing director Dr Saduruddin Gulam Husen, Private Secretary of the Yang DiPertua Negeri Shahul Hamid Abdul Kadir, Penang Hospital director Dr AVM Sukumar, Iconic Development Sdn Bhd Public Relations advisor Tan Kian Poo, Malaysian Medical Association Committee member Dr Tee Shin Sue, Kaliamman Temple advisor K. Vedivelu, Penang Territorial Army supporting secretary Lieutenant Colonel Yaacob Md Saad, N-2 Jeansmaker Sdn Bhd president Datuk Yeap Beow Chong and Peninsular Town and Rural Planning Department deputy director-general Zainuddin Ahamad also received the award.

Tun Abdul Rahman also conferred DSPN to two Chinese nationals for their contribution to the development of the state. They were Avago Technologies Limited chief executive officer and president Tan Hock E and Hong Thai Travel Services Ltd managing director Wong See Sum.

Meanwhile, 68 people received the Darjah Johan Negeri (DJN), 25 the Bintang Cemerlang Negeri (BCN), 152 the Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji (PKT), 497 Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK), 393 Pingat Jasa Masyarakat (PJM) and 68 Pingat Bakti Setia (PBS). – BERNAMA
