KANGAR – The issuance of an audit pass certificate to Tabung Haji (TH) by the Auditor General for the year 2015 shows the company’s governance, transparency and efficiency had attained good levels, says its Chief Operating Officer Datuk Adi Azuan Abdul Ghani.
The audit was conducted throughout the year and the result was announced recently, he said, adding last year TH posted its best ever profits, showing the firm’s indisputably good and efficient management.
“The stock market sector was the highest contributor among the sectors TH ventured into last year, and the company is always on the lookout for new, profitable investments,” Adi Azuan told reporters after handing over contributions totalling RM43,000 to 86 eligible zakat recipients as part of the firm’s ‘Ehsan TH’ corporate social responsibility programme.
He said TH makes in-depth studies before investing so that the profits would enable it to subsidise the ever-rising cost of the Haj pilgrimage.
TH subsidises RM7,290 of the total cost for each prospective Haj pilgrim of RM17,270, he said.
“I wish to clarify that all TH’s investments in the plantations, property, Islamic finance, takaful and share sectors are syariah-compliant.
“Depositors need not worry, TH’s position is strong. I hope they are not influenced by the unfounded accusations against TH,” adding these accusations have been made by Muslims.
Adi Azuan said depositors who close their account and cancel their haj registration will find that their registration will have lapsed when opening a new account.
Earlier in his speech, he said TH is allocating RM2.2 million to the Ehsan TH scheme in conjunction with the Ramadan fasting month this year, with the company contributing RM500 to each of 4,408 eligible zakat recipients nationwide. – BERNAMA
