SHAH ALAM – The police shot and injured one of four youths after a getaway car they were in, failed to stop for inspection but instead, rammed into two police multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) in Jalan Bunga Pekan, Banting today.
The four suspects were detained in the 8.15am incident.
Selangor CID chief, SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the incident occurred when a police MPV from the Kuala Langat police headquarters stumbled on the Honda Civic car whose four occupants were behaving suspiciously.
Despite an order to stop the car for inspection, its driver accelerated towards Jalan Bunga Pekan before several police MPVs gave chase.
“At that juncture, the Honda Civic collided with two of the MPVs before the car skidded and rammed into the wall of a shop.
“One of the MPVs then intercepted the Honda Civic. The four occupants then tried to escape from the police who in turn, moved in on them.
“When one of the suspects behaved aggressively towards the policemen, he was shot and injured in the shoulder and right leg,” said Fadzil in a statement here.
He said the injured suspect was warded at the Banting Hospital where his condition was described as stable.
“The police have detained all the suspects, aged between 20 and 30. Initial investigations have revealed they have criminal and drug-related records, with one of them listed on the ‘Police Wanted List’,” he said, adding that they were investigated for attempted murder.
Seized from the Honda Civic were drug-related paraphernalia and burglary tools, among others. – BERNAMA
