YALA, March – An assistant village headman in Betong, southern Thailand stumbled upon a 105-mm mortar in a river while angling in the area Saturday morning.
Yala 3308 Rangers head Captain Charan Kosit said the mortar, believed to be used in the fight against communist terrorists in the 1980s, was found in a river at Kampung Pakban, Tanah Merah, Betong.
“The place the mortar was found was a strategic location for the Malayan Communist Party terrorists to find shelter,” he told the media here.
“A team of bomb experts sent to the location found the mortar to be in good condition and can be used, before blowing it up later,” he said. – BERNAMA
