KUALA LUMPUR – Asian football teams should take Japan as an example to advance to world level and qualify for the World Cup, said Tottenham Hotspur legend Oswaldo Ardiles.
Ardiles said in its early emergence, Japan was not good as now and they never won any tournament or championship but their courage to develop a better football team at last made them qualify for five consecutive FIFA World Cups.
“Asian teams should follow how and what Japan has done to be at this place now. They improved a lot. Not only by winning the Asian Cup but after a long journey, in 1998 Japan for first time qualified for the World Cup. ” he said at the Tottenham Hotspurs Legends’ Malaysia Tour press conference here today.
The tour sponsored by American International Assurance (AIA) Group, brought along Spurs legends Ardiles and Ledley King to Malaysia after they (AIA) signed a brand new sponsorship agreement with Spurs.
The sponsorship deal will see the AIA brand featured on the shirts of Spurs players in all competitions until the end of the 2018/2019 season.
Fans of the English Premier League (EPL) club will get the opportunity to meet them from Sept 3 to 6.
