LANGKAWI: Leaders of the 10-member Asean arrived here Monday for the traditional retreat and closing ceremony of the 26th Asean Summit.
After the two events, the leaders will attend a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The leaders will take part in the 11th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit tommorow.
This will be followed by the 9th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thaialnd Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit.
The leaders had earlier attended the Summit’s plenary session at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Langkawi OCPD Supt Harrith Kam Abdullah said security at the island had been stepped up following the recent arrest of 12 suspected Islamic State militants in Hulu Langat.
â€œWe have sufficient manpower including for all sensitive places and locations.
â€œThe safety of heads of governments and states as well as the delegates and visitors are taken care of,â€ he said.-The Star
