MANJUNG – Arson might have been the cause of a fire which destroyed three vehicles belonging to the Road Transport Department (RTD) at the parking lot at Jambatan Timbang JPJ in Kuala Kangsar early today.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (Operations Division) assistant director Mohamad Yunus Abu said a hole was found in the fence near the parking lot.
“The department and police will work together to conduct a thorough investigation. If there is any element of arson, the department will hand over the case to the police for further probe,” he told reporters at the presentation ceremony of the attire for the members of the Pasir Panjang Laut volunteer fire-fighting team here.
In the 2.36 am incident, the RTD vehicles, namely two Toyota Fortuner and a Ford Ranger; and two Volvo cars were destroyed in the blaze that was brought under control in 15 minutes.
No one was injured in the blaze.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Yunus said Perak had 43 volunteer fire-fighting teams which were set up to provide immediate assistance during disasters. – BERNAMA
