Ariana Grande Apologizes For “I Hate America” Remarks At Doughnut Shop

in Entertainment/Latest

Ariana Grande has always left a bad taste in our tongues.

In a recent video released by TMZ, the 22-year-old pop star was caught exhibiting a bizarre behaviour via Wolfee’s Donuts’ closed-circuit camera.

The “Love Me Harder” singer made a trip to the Lake Elsinore, Calif. shop on Saturday, July 4, and she was spotted passionately kissing one of her backup dancers Ricky Alvarez. Innocent enough, right?

Things took a turn when she moved her tongue away from Alvarez and onto some un-purchased donuts. When the clerk had her back turned, Grande took several sniffs and licks of some unsuspecting pastries.

To make matters worse, when one of the Wolfee Donuts employees brought out a tray of freshly glazed treats, the Nickelodeon alum declared, “What the f—k is that? I hate Americans. I hate America! That’s disgusting.”

The pint-sized diva does have a bad rep among industry insiders, but she has managed to pull out an excuse out of her hiney more than a few times.

Eager to fan off the “Donutgate” snafu, Grande released a statement of apology in Wednesday, claiming that her remarks were not ill-intended.

“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words.

As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole.

The fact that the United States has one of the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies. We need to demand more from our food industry.

However I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better.”

Since the incident was released online, Grande has pulled out of the MLB All-Star Game concert this upcoming Saturday, July 11. She will be replaced by “Cool for the Summer” songstress Demi Lovato. But as always, Grande has her reasons to back-up her poor life choices, by stating:

“As for why I cannot be at the MLB show, I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show. I hope to make it up to all those fans soon. That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words.”

Meanwhile, the story gained momentum as it was even picked up by the Associated press.

Mayra Solis, 22, a cashier on duty at Wolfee Donuts when Grande went into the store, said the singer didn’t purchase any of the doughnuts she licked.

“She was really rude,” Solis told AP.
