PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has dismissed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s appeal over a defamation suit against Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.
The jailed opposition leader was also ordered to pay RM100,000 in costs.
Anwar had originally sued Anifah over a statement at a media conference in Washington in 2009.
He had sought RM100mil in damages, claiming that Anifah’s statements had damaged his character and directly or indirectly portrayed him as unethical, unprincipled and corrupt.
In October last year, the High Court dismissed the suit after finding that Anwar had failed to establish his claim and ordered him to pay costs of RM20,000
