KUALA LUMPUR: Police nabbed a suspected Islamic State member when he was about to leave for Syria at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport about 5.30am today.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the 39-year-old local man was planning to go to Syria via Brunei.
The suspect was arrested by the Special Branch’s Counter-Terrorism Division to facilitate investigations.
Khalid said with the latest arrest, police have detained 46 Malaysians who attempted to join the terror organisation and those who facilitated their recruitment in this country.
Khalid spoke to reporters after officiating the police Federal Reserve Unit’s 59th anniversary celebration at the unit’s headquarters in Cheras, here, earlier today.-NST
