KUALA LUMPUR: Anirudh! Anirudh! Anirudh!…this is the name that reverberated across Stadium Negara on Valentine Day’s eve.
South Indian playback singer and composer Anirudh Ravichander’s concert in Malaysia, Anirudh Live in KL 2016, left an everlasting impression on his fans.
The solo concert is the second one in Malaysia by the hugely popular Anirudh and once again he he drew his legion of fans from all over the country. His inaugural concert here was on Jan 1 2015, at Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach, and the overwhelming turnout brought Anirudh back to Malaysia.
This time even more fans, in the thousands, made their way to Stadium Negara for the concert with the tagline “Lets Go Crazy Again”. The euphoria among Anirudh’s fans was clearly felt that night.
DIE HARD MALAYSIAN FANS FOR ANIRUDH
Anirudh’s fans started arriving at Stadium Negara as early as 5 p.m. and while awaiting for Anirudh’s show they were entertained by local artistes like the group Lock-Up, and singers DJ Biggie and Balan Kashmir.
As the clock ticked the concert goers were obviously getting impatient on the show that has yet to start.
Finally, at 9.45 p.m. Anirudh appeared on stage much to the delight of the anxious fans. For his fans, it was worth the wait.
The boyish looking Anirudh immediately mesmerised the crowds with his songs and energetic showmanship.
He entered the stage with his ‘glow in dark’ jacket, accompanied by dancers , and the fireworks lighted up the sky and the stage.
Anirudh kicked off the show with the song “Veera Vinayaga”, the hallmark start of his concerts.
The son of south Indian actor Ravi Raghavendra, and nephew of superstar Rajinikanth and his wife Latha Rajinikanth, continued singing up to four or five songs before each of the three interludes.
During the four-hour concert the fans especially at front of the stage (Terikeh Zone) went into a frenzy and sang along.
Exactly at 12 midnight, Anirudh launched his latest single, a love ballad, entitled “Avalukkena”, that coincided with Valentine’s Day (14 Feb).
An it is the first time Anirudh’s fans would hear the rendition of the melody.
The show drew its curtains with Anirudh belting out the hit song ‘Aaluma Doluma’, a song much sought after by the still excited crowd.
As usual Anirudh did some ‘selfies’ with his fans at the end and uploaded them on his Instagram account before returning to his country, Tamil Nadu, India.
ANI’S METEORIC RISE IN SHOW BIZ
Anirudh, who is affectionately known to his fans as Ani, witnessed a meteoric rise in the show biz world after his debut in 2011.
His song “Why This Kolaveri Di” from the Tamil film titled ‘3’, tracked more than 100 million views on Youtube. Even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak fancied the song.
Ani has established himself as a singer and composer with 11 soundtracks in blockbuster films to his credit.
Ani born on 16 Oct 1990 has 1.51 million followers on Twitter and is active on Facebook and Instagram.
The anticipation for Anirudh’s fans here started five months ago with THR Raaga radio channel promoting the concert.
THR Raaga also rolled out quizzes on Anirudh and the winners were given tickets to the concert.
The life interview with Anirudh over the radio station was aired during the “hypermalai” programme on Jan 15, adding to the excitement of Ani’s fans here.
Anirudh Live in KL 2016 was organised by Light and Music Klik Model Sdn Bhd with the backing of Malaysia Major Events (MME), a section of the Biro Malaysia Convention & Exhibition (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
FROM SINGAPORE TO KL
One of Ani’s fans R.Mathavan, 28, came all the way from Singapore just for the show.
“I am Ani’s loyal fan and have been closely following him in the music scene. He really rocked the stage tonight,” he said.
The private sector employee arrived in the city a day earlier and had put up at a hotel close to the stadium.
Another fan of Ani, S.Nishanthini, 24, from Perak shared that she bought the ticket two months ago and waited eagerly ever since to see her idol singing life on stage.
“I have been waiting for this day, to see Anirudh in action,” she said.
After the show in Kuala Lumpur, Anirudh will be heading to the United States in March, and Dubai and London in April and May respectively.-BERNAMA
