It’s rare that a week goes by without a fragrance brand announcing a new celebrity face. However, Guerlain’s announcement that Angelina Jolie is its new ‘icon’ has created huge amounts of excitement.
Rather than simply fronting a new scent, Jolie has acted as a muse and source of inspiration for the luxury French fragrance house’s master perfumer Thierry Wasser.
Very little has been revealed about the scent, however Wasser hinted that we can expect ‘notes of a woman’ and that the choices, emotions and dreams that embody modern femininity inspired him.
“We create perfume for the women we admire,” added Jacques Guerlain, creator of the house’s iconic scents, including Shalimar, L’Heure Bleue and Mitsouko. And, if this fragrance is anything like those classics, we can expect great things.
While the fragrance doesn’t launch in March, the project has been in the works since December 2015 when Jolie was directing her film “First They Killed My Father in Cambodia”. It is also known that the actress has a special interest in the brand as she remembers her mother using one of Guerlain’s powders as a child.
For some, Guerlain’s decision to partner with Jolie might seem surprising. However, the comparisons between Natalia Vodianova, who has been Guerlain’s face and muse for years, and Jolie are striking. Like Jolie, the Russian model continues to enjoy and juggle a successful career with her role as a mother and has strong ties with charities.
It’s been revealed that Jolie has donated her salary from this project to a charity.
Although it’s not known which specific one it is, she is the special envoy of the UN Refugee Agency and co-founder of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative.
This isn’t the first time Jolie has joined forces with a beauty brand, she was the face of Shiseido back in 2007. It is the first time she has worked so closely with one though. And no doubt, with Wasser’s expert blending skills and Jolie as his muse, this is one scent that we’ll all want to try.
