KOTA BARU: Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah (pic) said hand amputation of hudud law offenders is to save the society and thereby not cruel.
He said the severing of wrists was akin to a doctor amputating a diabetic patient’s limbs.
“No one can accuse the doctor of an act of cruelty but to save the life of the patient.
“Hudud laws that concerns the Syariah criminal code is about sacrificing an offender to save the society, ” he said in a series of explanation on Hudud laws uploaded on his facebook recently.
Mohd Amar, who is also the State Hudud Technical Committer Chairman, added that the West had continuously accused Islam of practicing inhuman punishment but this laws have been laid down in the Islamic perspective.
The PAS led Kelantan government is at the forefront to implement hudud laws statewide superseding the present Criminal law following the tabling of the two Private Members Bills recently by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The bills are designed to pave the way to increase the powers of Syariah criminal code in accordance with hudud.
