LANGKAWI – A two-lane road is being constructed as the alternative route to Pantai Cenang and will be opened temporarily from March 21 to prevent traffic congestion during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace 2017 exhibition (LIMA ’17).
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the new road would only be opened for light vehicles from 8 am to midnight until the end of LIMA’17 on March 25.
The Pantai Cenang road is the closest route between the two exhibition venues for LIMA’17, namely the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) and the Tanjung Malai Resorts World.
“We want to ensure that there will not be any traffic congestion on the road between the two venues,” he told reporters after checking the Pantai Cenang area here today.
The road issue surfaced last year after motorists began to park their cars on both sides of the incomplete road project.
The menteri besar said the contractor involved was now working in penalty period for failing to complete the project on time.
Ahmad Bashah said the state government, through the State Economic Planning Unit, would discuss with the federal government on the next steps to be taken to ensure completion of the project.
“When it is completed, the whole area of Pantai Cenang will become more attractive to visitors,” he said. – BERNAMA
