in Latest

The father of murdered Mongolian model Altantuya Shaaribuu has asked the Federal Court to hand over the appeal records in the criminal case.

The family intends to use the documents to proceed with the long-stalled civil suit against the Government in which they are demanding RM100mil for damages over her death.

High Court registrar Norhayati Johar set March 13 for the mention of the case.

Lawyer Ramkarpal Singh, who represented Setev Shaariibuu, said the case was read out before the registrar yesterday and it was important they obtain the appeal records as it was relevant to this case.

The civil suit was filed by Setev, his wife Altantsetseg Sanjaa and two grandsons who are minors in June 2007 but the case stalled because the High Court wanted the criminal trial to conclude first.

The defendants named were former political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, the Malaysian Government and the two men who had been found guilty of murdering Altantuya.

Setev earlier said the death of his daughter had caused them mental shock and psychological trauma. The damages sought included medical treatment for one of Altantuya’s sons who suffers from a medical condition.

On Jan 13, the Federal Court convicted former Special Action Unit personnel C/Insp Azilah Hadri and Kpl Sirul Azhar Umar for the 2006 murder. The men were sentenced to death.-The Star
