KUALA LUMPUR – Trying to bring down the UMNO president through fabricated allegations, not only affects the party but also risks causing UMNO to be defeated in the next general election, says an UMNO leader.
Kota Belud UMNO division head, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said this was certainly not in line with party tradition.
“If we wish to talk about maintaining party tradition and not breaking away from party tradition, then we have to look at it in total and not take it as piecemeal based on what suits us,” he said in his blog http://sskeruak.blogspot.my/#!/tcmbck today.
Salleh, who is also communications and multimedia minister, noted that one party tradition that was being broken was accusing the party president of stealing RM42 billion when it was untrue.
Meanwhile, he said the tradition of the deputy president declaring the opening of the meeting of the wings at the UMNO General Assembly was just a tradition and merely a privilege given to the deputy.
“It is not a right. And while rights cannot be taken away from someone, privileges need to be earned. And privileges can be lost if they are abused. That is how it works,” he added.
It was reported the UMNO Supreme Council on Tuesday decided that the three meetings of UMNO wings – Wanita, Youth and Puteri – would be officiated by the respective movement heads, following a proposal by the wings concerned. – BERNAMA
