KUALA LUMPUR – Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on Sunday suggested that every state Umno liaison committee hold a convention to discuss resolutions to be brought to the Umno General Assembly scheduled for Nov 25 to 29.
He said the conventions would provide an avenue for party members to express their opinions and exchange views.
“Those states which have yet to hold a convention can still do so as there is still time,” he told reporters after launching the 1Malaysia Breakfast programme organised by the Federal Territory Wanita Barisan Nasional (BN) in the compound of the Kuala Lumpur Library here.
Also present at the launch of the programme, which carried the theme ‘Celebrating Diversity Together’, were Federal Territory Wanita BN chairman Senator Mariany Mohd Yit and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib.
Tengku Adnan praised Selangor and Terengganu Umno for having held conventions yesterday to discuss various issues and resolutions that would be debated at the Umno general assembly.
Asked whether the assembly would debate a resolution condemning the so-called IS militant group, Tengku Adnan said that would depend on whether anyone tabled such a resolution.
“The chairman (of the resolutions committee) is Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein. He will have discussions with the relevant quarters,” he said.
In his speech earlier, Tengku Adnan reminded Umno divisional leaders to announce every programme that they carried out.
“We have to endear ourselves to the people, not hold programmes which the people do not attend.
“We have to remind the people to remain united; then Malaysia can continue to be progressive,” he said. – BERNAMA
