TUMPAT – The Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government today approved all applications for projects in Pengkalan Kubor applied by former state assemblyman Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar.
Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the projects which involve allocation of RM1.5 million were approved in the interest of the people and not because of the by-election.
“The ministry has studied the applications submitted by Datuk Noor Zahidi and decided to grant all his wishes. This is based on his excellent service record,” he told reporters in Kampung Raja, Pantai Geting, here today.
For the first stage, the ministry approved immediate allocation of RM260,000 for upgrading of infrasturcture such as roads, drains, and so on.
Abdul Rahman said allocation of RM500,000 will be distributed as soon as possible for the upgrading of other basic facilities in the state constituency.
“Besides 100 fishermen who will be given trawler nets, 15 others will be given three-wheeled motorcycles to enable them to do small business.”
The ministry also approved the construction of a RM500,000 community hall in Kampung Telok Jering.
He urged the Tumpat District Council to facilitate the approval so that the facility can be enjoyed by the people as soon as possible.
The by-election is a three-cornered contest among Mat Razi Mat Ail of the BN, Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim of PAS and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
It is being held following the death of three-term assemblyman, Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar of the BN, on Aug 20.
Noor Zahidi had retained the seat in the general election held last year with a majority of 1,736 votes, beating Saharun Ibrahim of PKR and Izat Bukhary.
PKR has allowed PAS to contest its seat in this by-election.
Polling is on Sept 25 (Thursday). – BERNAMA
