KUALA LUMPUR- Twenty-four died in a fire at a Tahfiz school in Bukit Keramat at 5.45am this morning.
Of the 24, 22 were students and and two were teachers.
Six students who were found in critical condition have been sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
City police chief Datuk Amar Singh said the fire department rescued 14 students while four teachers managed to escape the fire.
“All 24 victims were found on the second floor of the school
“This is the current body count. We are still verifying the total number of deceased as the bodies are piled on top of each other,” said Amar when met by reporters at the scene.
He added that there is only one entrance into the school. It was still too early, he said, to determine the cause of fire.
The 22 deceased students are among 36 who live in the tahfiz. -NST
