AirAsia X has plans to resume its Kuala Lumpur – London route after axing flights to the United Kingdom in 2012.
The budget airline carrier and is also eyeing to add the US Aloha State of Hawaii to its network. Such a Honolulu route would open up new ASEAN tourist markets for Hawaii. It would open tourism to Hawaii for the growing middle class in Asia as well. Which is unsurprising, as the airline has a good network in all ASEAN countries.
Its group CEO Tony Fernandes said in a series of tweets: “I am pleased to announce that the reopening of Kl London is definitely on the cards. Will be discussion with Boris Johnson next week. We are also exploring Hawaii as part of our growth strategy.â€
According to Fernandes, the KL-London route “is the most wanted route for AirAsia X’.
Fernandes also tweeted to his followers to tell him why they love AirAsia X. “Tell me why you love AirAsia X and I will give one free ticket to our inaugural flight from KL to London and back . One from Asia, one from Europe.â€
Previously, the carrier had scrapped the KL-London route in 2012 due to high costs, but Fernandes had said the order of 50 A330-900neo aircraft in July could ensure the resumption of service on this route. Deliveries will start from 2017.MYNEWSHUB
