KUALA LUMPUR – The haze in Shah Alam has deteriorated to the hazadous level at an
air pollutant index (API) reading of 308 as of 9 am today.
The Department of Environment in its portal stated that the API reading for
the area at 10 pm last night was 189.
Very unhealthy API readings were recorded in five areas, Batu Muda here
(271), Petaling Jaya (256), Banting (249), Port Klang (243), and Putrajaya
Unhealthy air quality was recorded in 24 areas compared to 29 previously,
including Larkin Lama and Muar in Johor, Alor Setar and Bakar Arang (Sg. Petani)
in Kedah, Bandaraya Melaka and Bukit Rambai in Melaka, and Nilai and Port
Dickson in Negeri Sembilan.
Also affected are Balok Baru and Indera Mahkota in Kuantan and Jerantut
(Pahang), Jalan Tasek and S K Jalan Pegoh in Ipoh and Seri Manjung (Perak),
Seberang Jaya 2, Perai and USM in Penang; Kuala Selangor, Kemaman, Kuala
Terengganu and Paka in Terengganu; and Cheras here.
Fourteen areas recorded moderate API readings compared to 13, at 10 pm last
The areas are Kota Tinggi, Pasir Gudang, Langkawi, SMK Tanjung Chat, Tanah
Merah, Tanjung Malim, Kangar, Tawau, Kapit, Kuching, Samarahan, Sarikei, Sibu
and Sri Aman.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate;
101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; and 300 and above, hazardous.
