JAKARTA – Former Jakarta governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or better known as Ahok is back in the limelight after he was reported to have filed a divorce petition against his wife, Veronica Tan.
Online media in Indonesia reported that Ahok filed the petition on Jan 5 at the North Jakarta District Court.
Ahok also filed for custody of their three children – Nicholas Sean, 20, Nathania Berniece, 17 and Daud Albeenner, 12 years.
Ahok, 51, received wide coverage from the Indonesian media when he was charged with insulting Islam, and was found guilty in May last year.
He is undergoing a two-year jail sentence at Mako Brimob Prison at Kelapa Dua, Depok.
The divorce petition initially spread on the social media, before Ahok’s lawyer Josefina Agatha Syukur today confirmed the matter.
Josefina declined to comment on the cause of the petition. The couple were married on Sept 6, 1997. – BERNAMA
