KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Tian Chua should stop denying being involved in scheduling a meeting with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated his earlier statement that Tian Chua was behind a meeting between PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar and Jacel in Manila recently.
“He does not have to make his denial through the media. He should answer by giving a statement to the police, and deny any involvement in court if he is really not involved.
“I don’t wish to retract any statement I made on this matter earlier this morning, he would know of his own involvement in arranging the meeting,†Dr Ahmad Zahid said in a press conference at Parliament lobby Monday.
Photographs of the Opposition politicians with Jacel had made the rounds on social media, with some quarters calling for legal action against Nurul Izzah and Tian Chua.
In a response to Dr Ahmad Zahid’s initial statement, Tian Chua had said both he and Nurul Izzah were unaware that the person they had taken photos with was the self-styled Sulu princess.
He had also claimed the issue was being politicised and that political parties should instead be united with regards to protecting Malaysia’s territorial integrity.
Jacel is the daughter of the late self-styled Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III who ordered 200 members of his “Royal Sulu Army†to invade Lahad Datu in February 2013 to stake his claim over Sabah.
