KUALA LUMPUR – UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also assuming the duties of deputy president, spent some time observing and listening to the debate by delegates at the general assemblies of the three party wings – Wanita, Youth and Puteri – at the Putra World Trade Centre here today.
He was accompanied by UMNO Supreme Council members Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim and Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin.
Ahmad Zahid’s arrival at Dewan Tun Dr Ismail at 3 am, where the debate session by Wanita UMNO was in progress, was received with loud applause from the delegates.
The deputy prime minister spent some time striking up conversation with and accepting greetings from the Wanita UMNO delegates who were then listening to a debate on the motion of economy by a delegate from Penang, Tasek Gelugor Wanita UMNO assistant secretary Nor Hafizah Othman.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, then left to the UMNO Youth assembly at Dewan Tun Hussein Onn.
A delegate from Perlis, Mohamad Khairul Mat Rose, who was then at the rostrum, took the opportunity by asking the government to raise the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) by two-folds for households with more than three people.
After that, Ahmad Zahid went to the Puteri UMNO assembly at Dewan Merdeka and spent about 10 minutes there listening to a debate on the motion of economy by a Johor delegate, Gelang Patah Puteri UMNO leader Fazilah Musakuti, and also entertaining requests for selfies from delegates.
The UMNO Wanita, Youth and Puteri assemblies were held simultaneously in conjunction with the 2017 UMNO General Assembly today and was opened by Ahmad Zahid last night. – BERNAMA
