PUTRAJAYA – Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek will be holding a special meeting with his staff on Monday (Jan 19) to discuss safety aspects for its staff at its premises, especially for women.
The meeting comes in the wake of an attack on a female staff by a male maintenance worker there yesterday evening.
Ahmad Shabery today visited the victim, Siti Maisarah Mohd Saad, 30, who is now receiving treatment at the Putrajaya Hospital here for facial and head injuries as a result of the brutal attack.
“We want better safety guarantees in future and the standard operating procedures (SOPs) on this will be reviewed to improve safety for all staff at the ministry’s premises,” he told reporters.
He stressed that improvements to the SOPs was important to ensure women staff at the ministry could carry out their work with peace of mind, especially after normal working hours.
The minister said the attack on the female employee was a cruel deed more so happening at her place of work.
“An office is supposed to be a safe place as compared to the streets or parking lots where crime can happen.
“We hope the police will treat this matter urgently and bring the culprit to justice,” he added.
The suspect in his 30s had been remanded for seven days and the case has been classified under Section 326 of the Penal Code (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt). – BERNAMA
