ALOR SETAR – Newly elected Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah who is expected to take over as the Kedah Football Association (KFA) president after the departure of former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir hopes to live up to the expectation of the fans and the people of Kedah.
Ahmad Bashah said since he had gained vast knowledge of being in the football administration of Kedah when he was the Deputy President when Datuk Seri Syed Razak Syed Zain Barakah was the Menteri Besar, he would be able to contribute and understand the needs of KFA.
“Since football has a big following, we will do our best to unite fans and supporters from both the political divide,” he told reporters at Istana Anak Bukit today.
Yesterday, Mukhriz when announcing his decision to step down as the Menteri Besar of Kedah had also announced that he would step down as the president of KFA since the post is co-opted when someone becomes the Menteri Besar.
Under Mukhriz’s leadership, the Kedah football team had achieved tremendous progress, including winning the Premier League title and reaching the final of the Malaysia Cup.
Meanwhile, KFA honorary secretary Datuk Aminuddin Omar, a strong ally of Mukhriz, said he was ready to make way for new faces after the change in the post of Menteri Besar and KFA president.
Aminuddin said an extraordinary congress meeting soon to elect the president.
“We are discussing the date for the meeting where the president will be appointed. Normally the Menteri Besar will become the KFA president. After the president is appointed, it will be a new set up,” he told reporters at Istana Anak Bukit, here today.
He hoped Kedah would continue its achievements under the new administration.
