SERDANG – Innovations to increase agricultural production are urgently needed to ensure that the country has sufficient food supply, said Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar.
He said technology and innovations in the agriculture sector would boost the industry so that it could meet the needs of the people at a time when food supply was getting more critical due to limited natural resources such as land and water.
“At a time when the agriculture sector is faced with various challenges such as the impact of climate change, pollution and less land for food production, we believe that agricultural innovations are the country’s hopes for sustainable food production.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘Our Food Our Future 2017’ conference held at the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) here today, Ismail said the use of information and communication technology played an important role in increasing productivity and marketing products as well as improving the use of agriculture machines and automation.
