KUALA LUMPUR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah tonight feted the Kedah football team who won the 2016 Malaysia Cup to a dinner at Istana Negara.
Also present were the Tunku Temenggong Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin um Sultan Badlishah and Tunku Laksamana Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Abdul Hamid Thani Sultan Badlishah and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
Ahmad Bashah said the dinner showed that Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who ia a big football fan, always follow the development and progress of Kedah football.
Ahmad Bashah, who is also Kedah Football Association (KFA) president, said the Malaysia Cup win was the fifth for Kedah.
“The triumph yesterday night is a symbol of team work, the tireless effort of the coaches, management and all the players who exhibited the indomitable spirit under the philosophy ‘Kedah-born Abhors Losing’ (Anak Kedah Pantang Kalah).
“The success this year has a special meaning and ia a special present in conjunction with the birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said in his speech during the event.
Kedah won the Malaysia Cup after beating Selangor 6-5 via penalty kicks after drawing 1-1 in the 120 minutes game including 30 minutes extra time at Shah Alam Stadium.
Kedah won the Malaysia Cup in 1990, 1993, 2007 and 2008. – BERNAMA
