JOHOR BARU: A 39-year-old maid agent was today acquitted and discharged without having his defence called at the Sessions Court here.
Muhammad Faizzal Md Jamahari who sources maids for Agensi Pekerjaan Salnath Bumiputera Holding Sdn Bhd was charged with exploiting Meti Wati under Section 12 of the Anti Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Illegal Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).
The offence was allegedly committed at about 3.50am on Jan 19, 2014 at No. 21, Jalan Kempas Utama 1/2, Taman Kempas Utama here.
Sessions judge Muhamad Jamil Hussein said the prosecution failed to make a prima facie case and there was a lack of credibility of the witness called.
Muhammad Faizzal told reporters after the court’s decision that he was relieved over the acquittal.
“I have been sourcing maids for the past 13 years, this is the first time I was accused of exploiting one of the maids,” Muhammad Faizal said.
Meti Wati has already gone back to Indonesia.
According to the facts of the case, Meti Wati came to Malaysia on April 5, 2012.
Defence counsel Chuah Shyue Chieh, one of the lawyers representing Muhammad Faizzal advised employers to lodge a police report if their maids were to leave their homes.
“My client did not lodge a police report which led to him being accused of exploitation,” Chuah said outside the Court. -NST
