Eighteen-year-old Yuli was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle when the vehicle hit a pothole and fell in Jalan TB Simatupang, South Jakarta, on Tuesday evening.
In a gruesome turn of events, a Transjakarta bus coming from behind couldn’t swerve to avoid the fallen motorcyclists in time. The bus ran over Yuli’s head, killing her instantly.
The injury to Yuli’s head is so gruesome that her helmet had to remain on her head as she was buried yesterday in Ciracas, East Jakarta.
“Yuli was buried with part of the helmet still on her head. The hospital said if the helmet was taken off, then the top of her head and her face wouldn’t stay intact,†said Agus, Yuli’s neighbor who was present at her funeral, as quoted by Tribun.
Even so, Agus said Yuli was still buried in accordance with Islamic funeral rites.
“Her head and the helmet were covered with the kafan cloth, and then she was buried,†Agus said.
Agus said Yuli had just graduated from high school and had started working in Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta.
On Tuesday night, she was offered a ride home on her friend Maryam’s motorcycle. Maryam, who drove the motorcycle, was relatively lucky as she came out of the accident with just a broken left arm.MYNEWSHUB
