KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia began its 2017 Under-18 ASEAN Football Federation Championship (AFF) campaign with a 4-1 victory over Laos in Group A action last night.
Bojan Hodak’s squad opened the scoring at the Aung San Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar, through Muhammad Hadi Fayyadh Abdul Razak in the 28th minute, before Muhammad Akhyar Abdul Rashid doubled lead just before half-time.
Laos reduced the deficit through Bounphachan Bounkong just three minutes into the second half. However, Muhammad Akhyar and Muhammad Hadi Fayyadh once again showed their scoring prowess, each bagging a brace in the 60th and 90th minute, respectively.
Malaysia next plays Singapore on Wednesday (Sept 6), followed by games against East Timor (Sept 8), Cambodia (Sept 10), and Thailand (Sept 12).
Only the top two teams from the group will advance to the semi-finals which take place on Sept 15, while the final and third-fourth place fixtures are scheduled to be held on Sept 17.
