PETALING JAYA – The first leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup semifinal to be held at the Shah Alam Stadium between Malaysia and Vietnam will kick off at 8pm instead of 8.45pm.
Asean Football Federation (AFF) Secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad (pic) made the announcement after the Local Organising Committee meeting at Wisma FAM, here Tuesday.
Azzuddin said the time was fixed at 8pm because the stake holders for the live telecast had booked the satellite for the specific period and cannot be changed.
“Before the tournament had started, all the respective teams had agreed to kick off matches at 8pm and that decision cannot be changed because it will cause numerous problems, especially for foreign TV stations,” he said.
Meanwhile, FAM Secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said the online sales of tickets for the match has been very encouraging since 8,000 tickets have been sold when the online sales were opened at 10am Tuesday.
Hamidin said the 70,000 tickets allocated for the match would not be limited to only Malaysian fans but rather open for football fans from all countries.
“Right now Vietnam has yet to book a specific amount of tickets but we expect about 500 to 1,000 tickets to be bought by their fans when ticket counters open at the stadium on Sunday,” he said. – Bernama
