KUALA LUMPUR: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has suspended its general-secretary Datuk Alex Soosay.
AFC in a brief statement through its official website, www.the-afc.com, said that Alex had been suspended while they were investigating media allegations which had recently surfaced concerning a case in 2012.
“A video statement conducted as part of a FIFA investigation was passed to media recently and the AFC has now been able to erify its authenticity,” said the statement yesterday.
The statement added that AFC deputy-general secretary Datuk Windsor John, will take over the role on an interim basis whilst an internal investigation is conducted.
Malay Mail, a local English newspaper, reported the exposed the issue on April 25, saying the general-secretary of AFC had allegedly attempted to “tamper or hide” documents during the 2012 internal audit that was triggered by claims of corrupt practices by the then president Mohammad Hammam.
