KUALA LUMPUR – A construction company was fined RM6,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today for allowing the Aedes mosquito to breed at its construction site.
Magistrate Zuhair Rosli meted out the fine against Tajukon Sdn Bhd after the company representative, Employee Safety and Health officer K. Gunalan, pleaded guilty to the charge.
The company was charged with allowing the Aedes Albopictus larva to breed in plastic food containers at the company’s construction site at Lot PT 9502, Dato Keramat here at 10 am last Feb 28.
The charge, under Section 13(1) of the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975, read together with Section 23(a) of the same law, provides a fine of up to RM10,000, or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
In mitigation, the company, which was unrepresented, said it was its first offence.
