KUALA LUMPUR – Adibah Noor Mohd Omar has come along way since she walked away as champion of Suara 90-an Nescafe back in 1994.
Twenty-two years ago today, the singer, who is now one of Malaysia’s showbiz heavyweights, is all set for her first solo concert at 8.30 pm tonight at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPaC), Sentul Park, jln Ipoh here.
Adibah, 46, will take her audience along her music journey, belting out her childhood favourites such as Irene Cara’s What A Feeling (Flashdance), and Diana Ross’ I Will Always Love You. Others include songs she rendered in Suara 90-an Nescafe and those she performed throughout her first two decades as a singer.
During the two-day mini concert, titled ‘Adibah Noor – Into The Third Decade,’ she will perform the duets in her third and latest album, Jiwa Sentuh Jiwa.
To mark her illustrious career, Adibah gave a rousing non-stop two hour performance with 22 songs during a preview for the media and special guests at KLPaC last night. Also present singer and actress Rozita Rohaizad, who has just released her first dangdut single, Anak Ikan.
Adibah will be backed by a five-piece band and four back-up vocalists led by an old friend Nizam Din who sang the duet, Bahasa Rindu, with her two years ago.
The concert with feature performance with her duet partners, Misha Omar, Atilia Haron, Sam of Innuendo, Dina Nadzir, Nassier Wahab and Amir Jahari.
She hopes that Anuar Zain will be able to make an appearance, and sing with her the duet, Andai Ada Ruang, which is composed by Azlan Abu Hassan and written by Chekem Mirza.
At last night’s preview Adibah performed with Misha, the duet number, Jiwa Sentuh Jiwa, which is composed by Aubrey Suwito and written by Ad Samad.
Adibah, who is also emcee and TV host, has also acted in four films directed by the late Yasmin Ahmad: Sepet (2004), Gubra (2006), Mukhsin (2007) and Talentime (2009).
Her best known TV appearances are in the sitcoms Oh My English! and Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd. She has released three music albums to date – Terlalu Istimewa (2006), Teman (2010) and Jiwa Sentuh Jiwa (2016). Adibah won Best Vocals, Best Ballad and Best Song (Terlalu Istimewa) in Anugerah Juara Lagu 2006.
