KUCHING: Sarawak Barisan Nasional will continue to support Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as the Prime Minister has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing in relation to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
“Najib is the Prime Minister of Malaysia and head of Barisan Nasional. I owe him that loyalty. And it has not been proven that he has done anything wrong,†said Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem (pic) during his winding-up speech in the state legislative assembly on Wednesday.
“I can give you assurance that if he is found guilty of 1MDB-related offences, then we might reconsider our loyalty to him,†he added.
Adenan was responding to a question by Yap Hoi Liong (DAP-Dudong) about the state Barisan’s support of Najib despite its stand that Umno should not come to Sarawak.
The Chief Minister said earlier in his speech that he had persuaded Umno not to enter Sarawak because the state-based Barisan parties were capable of leading and developing Sarawak.
He added that if Opposition assemblymen agreed with not allowing Umno’s entry into Sarawak as it was a Peninsular Malaysia-based party, they should apply the same principle to DAP, PKR and PAS.
“If you are unsure whether stopping Umno from coming to Sarawak is permanent or not, why don’t we pass legislation in this House to ban the coming of Umno, DAP, PKR and PAS. Can I have your guarantee that you will support it?” Adenan asked Yap.
