NILAI: International Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik said the actions taken by religious extremist groups are not linked to Islam.
He said Islam did not promote such things as violence or terrorism towards human beings.
“What is ISIS in full? The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Are they Islamic? So why must we be repeating the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. You should say the Anti-Islamic State of Iraq and Syria,” he said in his public lecture at the Kolej Permata Insan multipurpose hall, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), here, today.
Also present were USIM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Musa Ahmad and the Prime Minister’s Office Strategic Planning Division director Datuk Shahlan Ismail.
Replying to a question from the floor if the action of discrediting Islam was affecting his dakwah, Dr Zakir said Islam was a peaceful religion and it was stated in the Al-Quran that Muslims did not in anyway allow for the killing of any innocent soul.
“How can Muslims kill innocent people…what we should say is anti-ISIS,” he added.
ISIS is now known as the Daesh militant group.
